While they were living this way there was a town hero. While the sons of the town hero were hunting, while they were fishing, they saw the reindeer, they saw the heard of the grandmother’s grandson. “What animals are there with sharp horns on their crowns? For the whole human era there have been no such animals on this land, we haven’t seen them, where did they come from?” Then they went on and met the grandmother’s grandson who was guarding the heard. “Where did you get them from?” they asked. “Are they your animals or whose?” “Of course they’re mine,” he said, “I’m watching here to guard them. If they are not watched, they disperse and each one goes where it wants. If you watch them, all of them stay together and all of them are full and live.”

The Mos woman lived with her younger brother. They lived for a long time or a short time, they lived. One day the younger brother took ill. A short pillow, a narrow one, she turned the pillow now higher, now lower. The brother died. He died. She wept for him a long time, a short time, what should she do? She had so much strength, she had so much power, she buried her brother. She buried him and thought: “Where shall I go? Among forest demons, among forest spirits, where shall I go?” Well, she though: “My brother is dead and I will die too. So I will go. Over a long or a short time, how shall I live. There lived an old man with an old woman, an old man with an old woman. Both of them were old, as old as each other, they had nobody. The old man thought: “If I were to go out to a place a bit higher, where fire-wood is found, (Behind their house there was a clearing) to the clearing. I’ll check what kind of animals go there, the traces of which animals are there.” He put on his skis and went out of the house up to the clearing. Along the edge of the clearing, along the edge of the forest he skied, his skis went this way and that. What was he up to? He went along the ski path, rushed on further. Sooner or later he reached a sort of a wooden house. It was apparently the house of a hunter. He went into the house, nobody was there, an empty house. Inside the house everything was hung over with skins: sables, animals. Whatever kinds of animal skins there are, it was full of them.
